Project 4: Emphasis and Focal Point

Goal:

Part I: Create a visual focal point using only shapes and one or more of these design elements: contrast, isolation, and/or placement.

Part II:“Rule Breaker: “ Create intentional "chaos" with no focal point using shapes.

Guidelines:

Using only triangles, squares, and/or circles, create 2 different compositions.

If you repeat shapes consider playing with different sizes.

Be aware of the shapes created by the negative spaces in your composition.

Shapes may be overlapped, or grouped or they can stand alone and not touch other shapes.

If you choose to do this project with traditional media: projects should be made with black and white OR colored paper shapes glued to the surface of the page.

Edges must be clean and neat, and adhesive must not be evident in any way.

Materials:

2 sheets of Bristol board

Colored paper and/or black paper

Pencil, pen, ink, marker, paint, collage materials, rubber cement, glue.

Written Portion:

Include a written portion that is 100-150 words, explaining how Part I of your project shows Emphasis & Focal Point.  And also explain the validity of your Part II "Rule Breaker" Project. Does it work? Not work?   Define the methods/process you used. Reference and highlight at least 3 of the Unit's vocabulary words in reference to your projects. Your writing should be college level, essay format.

Submitting your work
